By appearing in films with actors such as Rob Loew and Anthony Michael Hall, Jenny was put in the 'Brat Pack' category. Thus, Jenny's film choices became edgier, starting with "Near Dark" in 1987, which in addition cult status, brought Jenny many independent, 'left of center' film roles and rid her of the 'Brat Pack' label. Following the news that the organisa acura tion will see its budget slashed 40% from April as a result of government spending cuts, the Carbon Trust is keen to identify new revenue streams. Its track record and expertise acquired over the past 10 years have made the Carbon Trust a highly exportable brand.

In 2009, The Carbon Trust signed a joint venture in buick China to develop and deploy low carbon technologies in China, last year the Australian Carbon Trust opened in Melbourne and executives have now revealed it plans to next year open offices in California to help the state's businesses cope with planned cap-and-trade legislation.

The head of R&D at the Carbon Trust, Robert Trezona, said that is adamant international expansion is a natural next step for the organization. "Expansion is part of a strategic initiative that started in 2007. It has been very audi clear to us that the UK is only 2% of global carbon emissions. The UK has been a fantastic place to develop a brand, capability and a track record and it has some of the best climate change policy in the world. From the US perspective, the luxury of cross-party consensus on climate change [in the UK made it] a great place for the Carbon Trust to have started."

As part of that expansion, the Carbon Trust opened in Boston over a year ago in an effort to help US companies with carbon footprinting. Since that, it has already worked with around 20 companies in the food and beverage, agriculture, personal care, paper and pulp, retail, medical products, electronics, semiconductors, packaging and apparel sectors.

The Carbon Trust is not only looking to expand in the US, but it also wants to attract partnership and investment from the US for start-up companies in Britain. This week it brought three British start-ups to San Francisco to help them find funding and partnerships that are cu chrysler rrently unavailable in Europe's diminishing venture capital market.

Trezona said that the Carbon Trust's operations in the US would be commercially self-sufficient and would not require the UK taxpayers' money to underpin much of the organization's activity in the US. He also denied that the expansion was a response to the 40% government spending cuts announced last month, insisting the expansion plans were driven purely by opportunity in the US.

Seaforth Energy Inc. Secures $1.9M Atlantic Innovation Fund Investment

"China Petrochemicals Report Q2 2011" is now available at Fast Market Research

PRLog (Press Release)– Mar 21, 2011– Chinese petrochemicals output should continue to exhibit strong growth in 2011, but investment in the industry will be increasingly driven towards consolidation and boosting value of production, according to BMI's latest China Petrochemicals Report.

Demand has been healthy in the Chinese market with PE demand up 13% y-o-y to 17.4mn tonnes in 2010, while PP grew 6% to 13.9mn tonnes. This made China by far the world's largest polymer consumer and importer. Imports included 1.38mn tonnes LDPE (up 3%), 2.48mn tonnes LLDPE (up 13%), 3.50mn tonnes HDPE (down 9%) and 4.80mn tonnes PP (down 6%). New domestic capacity helped reduce inflows of HDPE and PP.

In 2010, China Petrochemicals Corporation (Sinopec)'s ethylene output grew 35% y-o-y, to 9.06mn tonnes, while plastic and resins output grew 26% to 13mn tonnes. Output of synthetic rubbers rose by nearly 10% to 967,000 tonnes while fibres output grew 7% to 1.4mn tonnes. However, Sinopec's urea output slumped 30% to 1.22mn tonnes. Sinopec, however, reported a drop in urea production by 30%, to 1.22mn tonnes. The company's refinery throughput was up 13%, at 211.13mn tonnes, and output of light chemical feedstock was 30% higher at 35mn tonnes.

In the first 11 months of 2010, ethylene output grew 35.5% y-o-y, to 12.89mn tonnes, primary plastics grew 19.1% y-o-y, to 38.77mn tonnes and plastic products grew 20.9% y-o-y, to 53.59mn tonnes. The growth trend was consistently upwards throughout 2010, indicating that a recovery was being sustained, despite the rapid rise in production in the Middle East and a large polymer inventory at the beginning of the year. However, key polyolefins consuming industries are experiencing the effects of tightened lending conditions amid government efforts to combat inflation. This situation has primarily affected the construction and automotive sectors, which had made orders on the basis of assumptions of s buick trong growth levels.

China's annual PE demand is expected to grow by 8-9% in 2011, but new capacity will reduce imports by up to 14% from the 7.4mn tonnes imported in 2009, although this will be more at the expense of neighbouring Asian states while Middle Eastern suppliers will be unaffected. In terms of polymer capacities, we estimate that PE capacity grew by 1.65mn tpa and PP capacity grew 1.45mn tpa in 2010, ensuring that polymer market self-sufficiency should approach 75% PE and exceed 100% PP in 2011.

In the Asia Petrochemicals Business Environment Ratings matrix, China's score is 79.1 points, up 0.5 point since the previous quarter owing to an improvement in country risk scores. With South Korea's score declining in 2010, China has moved from third to second place in the regional ranking, just 0.5 points behind Japan and 1.1 points ahead of South Korea. Although China's petrochemicals market ratings are the highest in Asia, it remains weighted down by a relatively poor financial and trade infrastructure and negative risks specific to the petrochemicals sector, namely reliance on imported feedstock and overcapacity in some segments.

The rapper and producer Nate Dogg had died on yesterday at the age of 41 years, reported the U.S. trade journal Hollywood Reporter. The cause of death is unknown, Nathaniel Hale aka Nate Dogg had suffered two strokes in the past.

Mexico town fires young police chief who left post

Marisol Valles Garcia was granted a leave of absence from March 2-7 to travel to the United States for personal matters but failed to return to Praxedis G. Guerrero as agreed, city officials said in a statement.

"In the absence of (Valles Garcia's) presence on the agreed-upon day, and since there was no notification of a need to extend the period of her absence, the mayor has decided to remove her from office," the statement read.

A local official accompanied Valles Garcia last week to the international bridge connecting El Porvenir to Fort Hancock, Texas, said Human Rights Commission official Gustavo de la Rosa Hickerson.

Local news media have since reported that she was seeking asylum in the United States, but there has been no confirmation of that and her precise whereabouts were not clear.

Over the weekend, as speculation increased that she was seeking refuge, officials tried to contact Valles Garcia by cell phone but were unable to reach her.

De la Rosa Hickerson said Monday that he still had not been able to reach her and did not know where she was. He added that he would ask officials to retract their dismissal of the young chief.

"I have the impression that this position by the mayor is a bit hasty," he told The Associated Press in a phone interview. "Because right now Marisol needs support, and one way to be supportive is to leave her in office."

De la Rosa Hickerson said residents of Praxedis told him Valles Garcia had received threats against her life, and there may even have been an attempt to kidnap her.

"To fire her is to leave her completely alone," he said.

Valles Garcia was named police chief of Praxedis G. Guerrero in October at age 20. The town had been without a police chief since her predecessor was shot to death in July 2009.

Drug violence has transformed the township of about 8,500 people from a string of quiet farming communities into a lawless no man's land.

Two rival gangs — the Juarez and Sinaloa drug cartels — are battling over control of its single highway, a lucrative drug-trafficking route along the Texas border.

Police will answer to the mayor until a new chief is appointed, the city government's statement said.

Egypt swears in new post-Mubarak Cabinet

The new Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Essam Sharaf, a U.S.-educated civil engineer, is expected to be met with the approval of the pro-reform groups that led the 18-day uprising that forced Mubarak to step down on Feb. 11.

State TV showed members of the government taking an oath during Monday's swearing-in-ceremony before the head of Egypt's Armed Forces Supreme Council, Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi.

The caretaker government's main job and challenge will be to help steer the country through reforms and toward free elections.

Among the most significant changes in the Cabinet designed to meet with protesters' demands, Sharaf named a new interior minister. Maj. Gen. Mansour el-Essawy, a former Cairo security chief, replaces Mahmoud Wagdi, who held the post for less than a month. The Interior Ministry is in charge of the security forces.

El-Essawy, according to a report by the state news agency, pledged after meeting Sharaf Sunday that he would work to restore security and reduce the role of the hated State Security agency.

Protesters have over the past few days rallied outside about a dozen State Security offices across the nation, in many cases storming the buildings, including the agency's main headquarters in the Cairo suburb of Nasr City. The protests followed reports that agents were burning and shredding documents to destroy evidence that would incriminate them in possible cases of human rights abuses.

On Sunday, army soldiers fired in the air and used stun guns to disperse hundreds of protesters who attempted to storm the State Security offices inside the Interior Ministry in downtown Cairo. The protesters said they wanted to see for themselves whether the building had secret cells and to stop officers from destroying documents.

Forty-seven police officers and soldiers were jailed after an investigation found they were among those who burned documents and destroyed computers at the Nasr City building, the attorney general's office said Monday.

The State Security agency, which employs about 100,000 of Egypt's 500,000-strong security forces, is blamed for the worst human rights abuses against Mubarak's opponents.

Dismantling the agency has been a key demand of the protest groups that led the uprising.

In another sign of the simmering unrest in Egypt, thousands of Coptic Christians protested in Cairo Monday to demand an end to the discrimination they say the minority faces. The crowds were also angry over a dispute between a Christian and a Muslim family south of Cairo over the weekend that resulted in the deaths of two people and the torching of a church.

Egypt's military promised to rebuild the church, but the protesters said they wanted more steps to improve the status of Christians.

Among the other new faces in Egypt's Cabinet was Nabil Elaraby, a veteran and popular public figure who replaces Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul-Gheit. His predecessor had held the job since 2004 but has been maligned by the protesters because of his criticism of the uprising in its early days.

Elaraby, 76, was Egypt's U.N. representative in the 1990s and served as a judge at the International Court of Justice between 2001 and 2006. He was critical of the government's crackdown against the uprising and was a member of a committee to advise protest leaders on their reform demands.

The new Cabinet also includes a new justice minister, Mohammed al-Jundi, replacing one who was considered a close Mubarak ally and whose dismissal was demanded by the opposition groups.

Also on Monday, an independent human rights and democracy watchdog criticized proposed constitutional amendments, calling them "deeply flawed" and saying they have frustrated Egyptians' hope that they would usher in a democratic transition.

A constitutional reform panel last month proposed 10 constitutional amendments that are to be put to a popular referendum on March 19. They include opening Egypt's presidential elections to competition and imposing a two-term limit on future presidents — a dramatic shift from a system that allowed the ousted Hosni Mubarak to rule for three decades.

But some Egyptians worry that the proposed changes don't go far enough to ensure a transition to democratic rule and could allow the entrenched old guard to maintain its grip on power.

The ruling military council, which took over from Mubarak, has said the military wants to hand power over to a new government and elected president within six months. It disbanded both houses of parliament and promised to repeal the emergency laws, though only when conditions permit.

In a statement, the Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies said the short transitional period of six months might exclude the emergent political and youth forces that unleashed the revolution from representation and participation in shaping the country's future.

It urged the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces to reconsider the amendments and revise the agenda and priorities of the transitional period.

In the Gaza Strip, Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh sent a message of support to the new Egyptian premier. Haniyeh's office said the message praised Sharaf for backing the Palestinians and appealed for an early reopening of the Rafah crossing between Gaza and Egypt.

Egypt and Israel imposed a blockade on Gaza, closing the Rafah crossing most of the time, after Hamas overran the territory in 2006. Last year, Israel began allowing a range of items into Gaza, but restrictions are still in place and exports are severely limited.

Published reports indicate HSBC halted its foreclosures after the U.S. government reviewed the bank's procedures. HSBC's conceded the deficiencies this week in its annual report.

Photo shows Giffords morning of shooting rampage

Shortly after the photo was taken, a man walked quickly up to the group and shot Giffords and 18 other people.

Six were killed in the Jan. 8 attack, including a federal judge and a 9-year-old girl, and 13 more were wounded, including Giffords.

Giffords' staff posted the photo of her and Jim and Doris Tucker of Tucson on Facebook Friday. Many fans of her page commented on the photo by Friday afternoon.

One person wrote, "What a haunting picture." Another wrote, "It is just so sad to know what is about to happen ..."

Man questioned in deaths of kids found in canal

Delray Beach Sgt. Nicole Guerriero said they were talking to Clem Beauchamp. She did not release his age. Neighbors say he lives in a house that police had cordoned off Thursday. She said he has not been arrested or charged. It was not immediately known if Beuchamp has a lawyer.

Investigators say they have tentatively identified the children as siblings but have not released their names or if Beauchamp is related to them. They have said the girl was between 6 and 10 years old and the boy between 10 and 12.

Their bodies were found Wednesday. The girl's body was in a duffel bag. The boy was discovered hours later in a suitcase about a half-mile away.

Divers used sonar and a remote-controlled submarine to scour the canal Thursday.

Authorities did not know how long the bodies had been in the water. Autopsy reports were not immediately released.

"We believe that this situation is domestic-related," Guerriero said. She declined to elaborate and said officers were "working to confirm everything we believe."

The wide canal flows east to west through this oceanside town southeast of West Palm Beach. The water is bordered by modest homes, tiny wooden docks and small motor boats, and dotted on either side with the lush green of palms and other trees.

Debbie Duarte, who lives along the canal, said the neighborhood is usually quiet. Before now, she said, the most surprising thing to turn up in the waterway was a bag of marijuana.

"For parents not to say their children are missing, either the parents are dead or the parents did it," she said.

Throughout the day, small boats of divers and other police combed the canal for clues. Guerriero said they found nothing.

Under a tree near the banks of the canal, a tiny makeshift memorial took shape, with a teddy bear, a hippo spotted with pink hearts and two bunches of carnations.

Police surrounded a small peach-colored house in a nearby neighborhood, but officers would not confirm any link to the case.

Reporters and curious residents converged on the home, which was surrounded by unkempt, spindly bushes and had a car parked on the front lawn. Hurricane shutters covered a side window.

Kenneth Marshall, 43, who sometimes stays with his mother across the street, said he often saw a man at the house playing football with his boys in the street.

"He really paid a lot of attention to his kids," Marshall said.

Marshall said he last saw the children two or three weeks ago.

"We've been asking for the mom for a couple days, and all he's been saying is, 'She's in jail,'" he said.

Study: US has much higher obesity rate than Canada

About 24 percent of Canadians are obese compared to more than 34 percent of Americans, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention study released Wednesday.

Researchers looked at height and weight data taken in surveys in both countries during 2007-09.

The two countries have different racial demographics. The United States has more black and Hispanic people, and both have higher rates of obesity. But even looking solely at white people, there was still a big difference — a 26 percent obesity rate in Canada compared to 33 percent in the United States.

It's not clear why that is, said study-co-author Cynthia Ogden, an epidemiologist with the CDC's National Center for Health Statistics.

"We share this border and many other things. It's a question we need to investigate more," said Ogden, whose co-authors included a researcher at Statistics Canada.

Another mystery: In children there was little difference. The childhood obesity rate was 15.5 percent in the United States and 12 percent in Canada, but the difference was not statistically significant.

This study is the first time the CDC has compared American obesity rates with another country. The report adds to a growing pile of studies that show Americans are less healthy than people in other developed nations.

For example, a 2006 Harvard Medical School study found that Americans are 42 percent more likely than Canadians to have diabetes, 32 percent more likely to have high blood pressure, and 12 percent more likely to have arthritis.

That study, based on telephone interviews rather than actual measurements, found about 21 percent of Americans said they were obese, compared with 15 percent of Canadians. That finding suggests Canadians and Americans share one characteristic — they tend to understate their heft.

In an opinion piece for the Financial Times, White House chief of staff Bill Daley challenged George Buckley's assertion that Obama policies could drive manufacturers overseas.

Buckley told the Financial Times in an article Sunday that Obama's instincts are "Robin Hood-esque." The criticism came as Obama has increased overtures to business.

The White House typically does not pick public fights with individual critics. But Daley wrote: "The stakes are too high to give credence to the kind of comments Mr. Buckley made this week."
